CASE DETAILS
The victim Ch.Venkayyamma belongs to a backward class often suppressed by the upper classes. On the 25th of December 2006 when the victim was returning home with her family from the market, she saw that her house and about 15 other houses were drowned in knee-deep water. On examining keenly she found out that the owner of the neighboring sugar cane fields directed all that water. The victim told the accused politely (who was the owner of that field) that the families living in that area were already suffering from several diseases due to the then recent rains and this overflowing water would worsen their condition. Even before she could finish the accused placed his hand on her chest and threw her down and after kicking her several times he forcibly took her into the sugarcane fields and ripped off her clothes. When her husband and her sister-in-law tried to rescue her the accused abused both of them physically and verbally. He then challenged the victim and the family to try to punish him for his wrong deeds. The victim and her family complained to the village heads but there was no response from them and they did not take any action. At that point of time Ms.P.Sesharathnam and Mr.Kumar representatives of PARA and the village committee members intervened in this case.

RESULTS
Ultimately with the help of all these people the victim and her family lodged a complaint against the accused and the accused was arrested and presented in the court. The case is still under trial.
