In 2006, PARA decided to join the Human Rights Education (HRE) network initiated by the
Institute of Human Rights Education, Madurai. Initially PARA associated with Sakshi, a
partner resource centre of DBSU. Later PARA took the responsibility for organising HRE in
the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh. This activity got a boost in 2009 with the international
congress on the Preventive System and Human Rights in Rome. In 2011 a seminar was
organised for the state resource team of State Council for Education, Research and Training
(SCERT) who went on to prepare the Human Rights Education Manual for the state school
teachers. Ever after, PARA has been facilitating HRE in about 600 government schools in
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Earlier HRE classes were conducted in classes 6, 7 and 8.
Now Human Rights Clubs are organised in the school. These clubs are now to be promoted
in the villages and influence Local Governance.
